Finland Political Parties

A clear, up-to-date guide to the political parties of Finland: National Coalition Party, Finns Party, Social Democratic Party of Finland, Centre Party, Green League, Left Alliance, Swedish People's Party of Finland, Christian Democrats. Their ideologies, leaders, and where they stand.

Finland has a proportional multi-party system in which no party comes close to a majority, so governments are broad coalitions. The National Coalition Party, the Social Democrats and the Centre Party are the traditional big three, joined in recent years by the Finns Party. Since 2023 Petteri Orpo has led a right-wing coalition of the National Coalition Party, the Finns Party, the Swedish People's Party and the Christian Democrats.

This guide sets out where each party stands: its history, its core ideology, and its positions on the economy, social questions, and foreign policy. Use it to understand the Finland political landscape, then take the test to see where your own views fall.
