Statements, asked twice

You take a position on sharp political and ideological statements using a six-point agreement scale. Key positions appear twice with opposite framing, once sympathetic and once critical. How much your answer shifts between the two framings becomes your framing bias score.

Alignment, not loyalty

The result shows how closely your answers match each position across all issues, not just the ones you feel strongly about. You might find you align with a party or ideology you didn't expect, or that you're genuinely split between two.

Politics in Malawi: the context of this test

Malawi is a presidential republic. The president and the 229-seat National Assembly are elected for five years. The last general election was held on 16 September 2025.

The party system

Peter Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) returned to the presidency in 2025 with 57% of the vote, defeating President Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). In Parliament the DPP won 78 seats, the MCP 52 and independents 73, while UTM and the UDF won only a handful.

The divides that split voters

Inflation, shortages of fuel and foreign currency, farm subsidies, corruption and regional fairness dominate the debate.

How it looks on the compass

Malawi's parties differ less on ideology than on regional bases and leadership. The DPP and UDF are strongest in the south, the MCP in the centre, and UTM has presented itself as an anti-corruption alternative.
