Statements, asked twice

You take a position on sharp political and ideological statements using a six-point agreement scale. Key positions appear twice with opposite framing, once sympathetic and once critical. How much your answer shifts between the two framings becomes your framing bias score.

Alignment, not loyalty

The result shows how closely your answers match each position across all issues, not just the ones you feel strongly about. You might find you align with a party or ideology you didn't expect, or that you're genuinely split between two.

Politics in Sri Lanka: the context of this test

Sri Lanka has an executive president and a 225-member Parliament elected by proportional representation. Anura Kumara Dissanayake won the presidency in September 2024, and the parliamentary election followed on 14 November 2024.

The party system

Dissanayake's National People's Power (NPP) won a record 159 seats with 62% of the vote. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) of Sajith Premadasa became the main opposition with 40 seats. The Tamil party ITAK won 8 seats, while the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) of the Rajapaksa family, which dominated politics before the 2022 crisis, fell to 3.

The divides that split voters

Corruption and accountability for past governments, the IMF programme and the cost of living, devolution and Tamil demands, the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the executive presidency dominate the debate, along with recovery from Cyclone Ditwah.

How it looks on the compass

The NPP grew out of the leftist JVP. The SJB is centrist with a social democratic message, ITAK represents Tamil nationalism, and the SLPP stands for Sinhala Buddhist nationalism and a strong state.
