Labour Party
Your answers most closely match the Labour Party of Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. You support pension reform, fiscal consolidation, the Chagos treaty and accountability for the previous government.
MMM
Your answers most closely match the Mouvement Militant Mauricien. You support electoral reform with proportional representation, the Chagos settlement and accountability for the previous government.
MSM
Your answers most closely match the Militant Socialist Movement of Pravind Jugnauth. You support keeping the pension age at 60, generous social benefits and subsidies, and oppose the investigations of former officials.
Statements, asked twice
You take a position on sharp political and ideological statements using a six-point agreement scale. Key positions appear twice with opposite framing, once sympathetic and once critical. How much your answer shifts between the two framings becomes your framing bias score.
Alignment, not loyalty
The result shows how closely your answers match each position across all issues, not just the ones you feel strongly about. You might find you align with a party or ideology you didn't expect, or that you're genuinely split between two.
Politics in Mauritius: the context of this test
Mauritius is a parliamentary republic. Most MPs are elected in three-member constituencies by first-past-the-post, with extra 'best loser' seats. The last general election was held in November 2024.
The party system
The Alliance du Changement, led by Navin Ramgoolam's Labour Party with Paul Bérenger's MMM, won all 60 directly elected seats in 2024, defeating Pravind Jugnauth's MSM. In 2026 Bérenger resigned as deputy prime minister and later left the MMM, while most MMM MPs stayed in government.
The divides that split voters
Public debt and the budget deficit, pension reform, the cost of living, the Chagos treaty, electoral reform and accountability for the previous government dominate the debate.
How it looks on the compass
The main parties are all broadly centre-left with welfare-state traditions. They differ more on leadership and on how fast to cut debt than on ideology.
