Statements, asked twice
You take a position on sharp political and ideological statements using a six-point agreement scale. Key positions appear twice with opposite framing, once sympathetic and once critical. How much your answer shifts between the two framings becomes your framing bias score.
Alignment, not loyalty
The result shows how closely your answers match each position across all issues, not just the ones you feel strongly about. You might find you align with a party or ideology you didn't expect, or that you're genuinely split between two.
Politics in India: the context of this test
India is a federal parliamentary republic and the world's largest democracy. Voters elect the 543-member Lok Sabha by first-past-the-post, and the prime minister needs its support. States have their own elected governments. The last general election was held in 2024, and state elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry took place in 2026.
The party system
In 2024 Narendra Modi's BJP won 240 seats, short of a majority on its own, and formed a government with its NDA allies. The Congress won 99 seats and leads the opposition alongside regional parties such as the Samajwadi Party, the Trinamool Congress and the DMK. In the 2026 state elections the BJP won West Bengal and Assam, the Congress-led front won Kerala, and the actor Vijay's new party TVK became the largest party in Tamil Nadu.
The divides that split voters
Religion and national identity, caste and reservations, the balance of power between the centre and the states, language, jobs, prices and farm incomes divide the parties, along with questions about the independence of institutions and the media.
How it looks on the compass
On the economy, most Indian parties favour a large role for the state and welfare schemes, with the BJP more pro-business and the CPI(M) furthest left. The sharpest divide is on the axis of authority and identity, where the BJP's Hindu nationalism and strong security laws stand against the secular, state-rights positions of the opposition.
