Where do you stand in
Barbadian politics?

14 statements on the issues dividing Barbados right now. Democracy, climate finance, the cost of living, crime and cannabis. See your alignment with the BLP and the DLP.

BLP
Your answers most closely match the Barbados Labour Party of Prime Minister Mia Mottley. You support fiscal responsibility after the debt crisis, global leadership on climate finance and the current electoral system.
DLP
Your answers most closely match the Democratic Labour Party. You support help with the cost of living, a stronger opposition voice and more focus on problems at home.

Statements, asked twice

You take a position on sharp political and ideological statements using a six-point agreement scale. Key positions appear twice with opposite framing, once sympathetic and once critical. How much your answer shifts between the two framings becomes your framing bias score.

Alignment, not loyalty

The result shows how closely your answers match each position across all issues, not just the ones you feel strongly about. You might find you align with a party or ideology you didn't expect, or that you're genuinely split between two.

Politics in Barbados: the context of this test

Barbados became a parliamentary republic in 2021. The 30-member House of Assembly is elected by first-past-the-post. The last general election was held on 11 February 2026.

The party system

Two parties dominate. The Barbados Labour Party (BLP) of Prime Minister Mia Mottley won all 30 seats for the third election in a row, with about 70% of the vote, leaving the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) without elected representation. DLP leader Ralph Thorne lost his own seat and later said he would step down.

The divides that split voters

The cost of living, the public debt, crime, water and infrastructure, climate change and the health of democracy with no elected opposition dominate the debate.

How it looks on the compass

Both parties are centre-left in tradition, and their differences are mostly about leadership, priorities and economic management.
